My school has both junior high and high school students. Can we offer both the New Driver (Class 5) Program, as well as the Learner’s Prep (Class 7) Course?
Absolutely! When completing the enrollment form for your school, let us know that you’d like to sign-up for both the New Driver and Learner’s Prep programs.
If I’m the teacher who will be facilitating this course at my school, what does that mean and how do I get started?
Once your school has enrolled for the program and you’ve set-up your teacher account, you’ll be able to log in to this website to get access to all the course materials and resources you’ll need to get going. You won’t need to teach the material, but here’s what you’ll need to do as the facilitator:
- Tell your students about the course and give them the link to register in our system. Please remind them they’ll need a parent or guardian to be present when they sign up.
- Set deadline(s) for the course content. We recommend that you set some course completion goals based on the length of your school semester. It’s up to you if you want to give them class time to complete it, or if you’ll assign it as homework.
- Occasionally check in with your students to make sure they’re on track to complete the course.
What do students get if they pass the course?
When a student passes the AMA Learner’s Prep Course, they’ll be equipped with the tools and knowledge to take their class 7 test.
When a student passes the AMA New Driver Program, they’ll receive a Letter of Classroom Completion from the Government of Alberta. If they choose to take a minimum of 10 hours of in-vehicle lessons as well, they’ll also receive a certificate when they pass their in-vehicle lessons..
Graduates from the AMA New Driver Education Program will also enjoy a discount from most insurance companies, and if they choose to get insured through the AMA Insurance Company, they’ll save an additional $300.
Is there any advantage to taking AMA’s online driver courses through AMA Driver Ed: School Edition, rather than going directly through AMA?
Yes! Because a group is registering, we’re able to offer either course at a drastically reduced cost of $40 per student. The regular price for anyone registering individually through AMA is $211 for the New Driver Program (saving each student $171 if they register through their school!) and $69.95 for the Learner’s Prep Course (saving each student $29.95).
Plus, when a student takes the course with the rest of their class, they’ll have the additional support of their teacher and peers. Learning about driver education at school also helps students understand how driving safely can contribute to their career readiness and other practical life skills.
Who pays the $40 fee per student?
You can choose the model that works best for your school. Some schools choose to include the $40 in their student fees, while others choose to use their school’s budget to cover the cost.
Does AMA Driver Ed: School Edition include in-vehicle lessons?
No, AMA Driver Ed: School Edition only offers our online (theory) courses through schools. But AMA Driving School does offer in-vehicle lessons, and we encourage all students to take in-vehicle training to prepare for independent driving.
